NUANS Report VS Name Approval

The NUANS Report serves as a prerequisite for name approval in specific jurisdictions like Federal, Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Upon submitting the Nuans report in these areas, the process for name approval commences. Conversely, in jurisdictions such as BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Yukon, and Northwest Territories, Name Approval can be obtained without the need to submit a Nuans report separately. In these regions, applying directly for name approval suffices without the necessity of a Nuans report. If a Nuans report is required for name approval, the relevant authorities will obtain it themselves.
Consequently, it can be inferred that name approval provides a level of assurance that the name will be secured if utilized before the expiry date. In contrast, a Nuans report does not guarantee name approval; rather, it reserves the proposed name for 90 days, allowing consideration for the purpose of obtaining name approval.

What does a Name Pre-Search involve?

A Name Pre-Search is a preliminary examination of proposed names conducted before obtaining a Nuans report. This process aims to save both time and money by identifying exact name matches before investing in a Nuans report. To elaborate further, if a Nuans report reveals an exact or partial conflict with an existing name, it becomes invalid. Consequently, a new report must be obtained with an alternative name. This cycle continues until a conflict-free name is achieved, incurring both financial costs and time. To circumvent this issue, the government has implemented the pre-search system within the name database. Therefore, conducting a pre-search serves as a determinant for the viability of obtaining a successful Nuans report.
